De Argentijns-Nederlandse Kunstenaar Luis Acosta heeft in 1988 zijn opleiding aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie te Amsterdam voltooid.
Hij heeft deelgenomen aan groeps- en individuele tentoonstellingen in de VS, Japan, Zuid-Korea, Duitsland, Finland, Italië, Engeland, Portugal, Denemarken, Argentinië en Nederland. Hij schreef onder meer artikelen over zijn ontwerpmethode voor stoffen voor het Nederlandse en respectievelijk Spaanse tijdschrift Textiel Plus en Oficio+Arte.
Vertaling Nederlands naar Spaans het boek Si’ira (ceintuurweefsel van de Wayuu Indianen) van Mirja Wark.
Hij is jurylid en curator van verschillende tentoonstellingen in Spanje en Nederland geweest.
Hij is een van de mede-oprichters en co-curator van LAKMA, Latijns Amerikaanse Kunst Museum van Amersfoort. LAKMA opent haar deuren dit jaar.
Als vormgever is hij voornamelijk geïnteresseerd in vormen. Als hij een vorm vindt wordt deze verder vergroot of herhaald. Vervolgens concentreert hij zich op de mogelijkheden de ontstane vorm(en) te gebruiken als basis voor het ontwikkelen van een ontwerp.
Vormen en kleuren zijn belangrijk om mee te werken. Het eerste geeft ruimte aan een ontwerp, terwijl het tweede voor warmte zorgt. Een van de werkwijzen is het ‘spelen’ met een vorm en met meerdere lagen materiaal van verschillende kleuren, waardoor soms een intrigerende kruising ontstaat die de indruk werkt alsof er een gevlochten werk is gecreëerd.
Zijn sieraden zijn ontstaan door het herhalen van een simpele basisvorm.
Het gestikte materiaal dat hij heeft gebruikt bestaat uit meerdere lagen van diverse soorten papier in
verschillende kleuren.
De objecten van papier garens zijn ontstaan op identieke wijze maar zijn gemaakt van andere materialen.
De stevigheid van het object ontstaat door het samen stikken van de lagen papier of papier draden.


El diseñador textil y de joyas, argentino-holandés, Luis Acosta se graduó en 1988 en el departamento textil de la Academia Gerrit Rietveld de Amsterdam.
Ha participado en exposiciones en grupo e individuales en EE.UU., Japón, Corea del Sur, Alemania, Finlandia, Italia, Inglaterra, Portugal, Dinamarca, España, Argentina y Holanda.
Ha publicado diversos artículos entre los que se destacan aquellos que tratan sobre su propio método de diseño textil en las revistas holandesa Textiel Plus y española Oficio+arte.
Tradujo del neerlandés al castellano el libro Si’ira (faja tejida de los indios Wayuu) de Mirja Wark
Ha comisariado y ha sido miembro de jurado de varias exposiciones en España y en Holanda.
Es miembro del círculo fundador y Comisario del LAKMA, Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Amersfort (Holanda), que abrirá sus puertas este año.
Como diseñador le interesan particularmente las formas. Cuando descubre una de estas que le atrae, la amplía o repite, después se concentra en probar todas las posibilidades que le brinda esa forma que le ha de servir como base para el desarrollo de un diseño.
Le es importante trabajar con formas y colores. Las primeras le dan la dimensión del trabajo mientras que los segundos le proveen de calidez.
Una de las maneras para concretar esto es ‘jugar’ con una forma y varias capas de papel de diferentes colores, que es el método que utiliza para sus joyas, o sea la repetición creativa de las formas..
En los objetos de hilos de papel procede de la misma foma con la diferencia de que trabaja con otro material.
La rigidez está dada según la cantidad de capas de papel, o hilos de papel, que ha cosido juntos.

The textile and jewelry designer, Argentine-Dutch Luis Acosta graduated in 1988 at the textile department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He has participated in group and individual exhibitions in the U.S., Japan, South Korea, Germany, Finland, Italy, England, Portugal, Denmark, Argentina and Holland. He has published several articles among which are those dealing with its own method of textile design in the Dutch magazine Textiel Plus and Spanish Oficio+arte. Translated Dutch to Spanish the book Si'ira (woven belt of the Wayuu Indians) by Mirja Wark.
He has curated and has served on the jury of several exhibitions in Spain and Netherlands.
Participates in a founding circle of members and co-curator of the LAKMA, Latin American Art Museum of Amersfoort (Netherlands), which will open this year.
As a designer he is particulary interested in forms. Once a form is found, he enlarges or repeats it. Then he concentrates on using the possibilities of that form as a basis to develop a design.
It's important to work with both shapes and colour. The first gives dimension to the design while the second provides warmth. One way of doing this, is to 'play' with a shape and several layers of different coloured materials, which sometimes gives rise to an intriguing hybridization, conjuring up the impression of something plaited.
The jewellery were created by repeating a simple basic shape.
Sometimes he uses the same basic shape for different pieces of jewellery by making a simple adjustment which results in a new design. He used stitched material consisting of several layers of different sort and colours paper.
The stiffness is developped as the number of layers of paper or paper threads is stitched together.
